Production automation specialist Contax has installed the UK's first MPM Accela printer at TT electronic manufacturing services (TTems) as part of its new production line at its facility in Rogerstone, South Wales. Announced by Contax in February 2005, Speedline's MPM Accela is the first in a new generation of stencil printers. Unlike its competitors, the Accela measures performance on throughput, rather than traditional cycle times.

The Accela produces more boards per hour than any other industry printer, with estimated throughput gains of 20 to 30% over its closest competitor.

Furthermore, it reduces setup, changeover and consumable downtime from an estimated 20min to a mere 5min, and offers a host of other features including tool-free hardware interfaces.

TTems specialises in electronic manufacturing and selected the printer to increase its capacity.

The Accela printer features an advanced vision system, fast cycle times, swift changeover and overall performance.

Explained Geoff Cambray, TTems Operations Director: 'We had used MPM equipment before and had always been happy with it, so when we needed a new stencil printer we went to Contax to see what was available'.

'We wanted a good vision system as product quality is of paramount importance to us'.

'We were also looking at speed, cycle times, fast job changeover and paste deposition'.

'The Accela met with our requirements'.

'As part of the service offered by Contax, TTems were offered 60-day trial period for the Accela printer'.

'This emphasised our confidence in the new system'.

'The initial testing was found more than satisfactory', he concluded.
