New at Nepcon UK and available exclusively in the UK, Ireland and Benelux from Contax, the Omron VT-RNS represents the next generation of network compatible automatic optical inspection systems. It is designed for diverse, multiproduct production, and provides high speed, top quality automatic optical inspection at a mid-market price. A fully flexible inline system, the VT-RNS can be positioned at varying points in the line: post printing, post placement and post reflow.

This allows components to be monitored at each stage of production.

Any units found to be defective can be removed without stopping the line, so ensuring that they do not progress onto the next stage.

The system offers fast imaging with a three-CCD camera delivering up to 10um resolution, to ensure even the smallest chips can be inspected.

Novel colour highlight technology makes it possible to measure 3D solder fillets, enhancing its function as a post-reflow inspection system, and ensuring that even lead-free solders are accurately examined.

The VT-RNS is fully network compatible, so allowing the remote monitoring of multiple lines.

Inspection criteria can also be adjusted whilst the line is in operation.

Trends can be identified and analysed using the VT-RNS.

The system collects and processes information on the defects and their frequency, which allows statistical data to be produced.

This can help identify any potential production problems and enable process improvements.

The system is easy to set up and use with a standard graphical user interface (GUI) and auto-teaching components.

Inspection program teaching can even be carried out while the line is in operation.

'The VT-RNS is the most flexible, sophisticated AOI system', said Jan O'Connor, Managing Director at Contax .

'It offers exceptionally high resolution imaging - three times the data of a single CCD camera - to provide totally accurate inspection of the smallest components'.

'Even lead-free solder doesn't pose a problem'.

'Quality control is becoming a crucial issue in SMD production, but the VT-RNS can provide an essential tool in achieving zero defects', he said.
