Available now from production automation system specialist Contax is the full range of Sigma semi-automated workstations. Sigma, which was recently purchased by Komax, specialises in manufacturing transfer systems and mechanised assembly workstations for mid-range assembly lines. Used extensively in the automotive sector, its customers include: Siemens, Visteon, Delphi, Valeo, ABB and Bosch.

Its offerings cover three product areas.

First, the company's transfer systems comprise standard modular components that integrate to form a complete system or individual workstation.

The modules can be purchased from stock and are designed to be very easy to install.

Upgrades and changes can be carried out by the user, so reducing costs and ensuring minimal disruption to the assembly line.

Secondly, for customers with more complex requirements, bespoke systems solutions can be designed to meet individual specifications.

Thirdly, a range of mechanised rotary workstations are available.

These ensure that all materials required are brought within easy reach of the assembly operator.

'The semi-automated (combination of manual assembly and automation) systems fill a critical gap in the market', explained Phil Shorten, Director - Bespoke Automation, Contax.

'Not all production lines can be fully automated due to budgetary or performance requirements'.

'The Sigma systems bridge the gap between manual assembly and total automation and enable us to offer the full span of products to meet all requirements'.

'They will be ideally suited to any manufacturers, where a high level of manual intervention is required'.
