Adapter supports FTP and OPP profiles
connectBlue provides an easy and cost efficient implementation of both the FTP and OPP solutions in a host CPU
Industrial devices with limited CPU and memory capacity can now use the Bluetooth file transfer (FTP) and object push (OPP) profiles without implementing a Bluetooth stack. This reduces the implementation costs in industrial applications. The Serial Port Adapter from connectBlue now includes support for the FTP and OPP profiles in addition to the previously supported serial port profile (SPP) and dial-up networking (DUN) profiles.

By offering the FTP and OPP profile support in the Serial Port Adapter, connectBlue provides an easy and cost efficient implementation of both the FTP and OPP solutions in a host CPU.
Normally, to be able to implement FTP or OPP solutions in a host environment, a stand-alone host controller interface (HCI) module is used.
This solution requires a full Bluetooth stack on the host side, which in most cases puts high demands on memory and CPU capacity.
The connectBlue Serial Port Adapter implements all protocols up to the radio frequency communication (RFCOMM) and, therefore, the host only needs to support the object exchange (OBEX) protocol and FTP/OPP profiles.
'Our newly expanded range of Serial Port Adapters fit perfectly in industrial applications', said Rolf Nilsson, President of connectBlue.
'Not only do they put less demand on the host's capacity, they also contain more of the Bluetooth protocol than typical HCI modules'.
'Typical applications would include transferring configurations files to control systems or collecting process data such as statistics'.
connectBlue has assembled a packet of a free open source implementation of the OBEX protocol, making the implementation of the FTP and OPP host solutions easier as well as more cost and memory efficient.
The OBEX-protocol implementation is based on the connectBlue Bluetooth OEM modules.
The connectBlue Bluetooth OEM modules are available in different form factors, different connection alternatives, short and long-range versions as well as with different firmware.
