Clear Shape Technologies works with Japan's leading semiconductor technology research organisation to jointly develop, validate and deploy a variability-aware DFM flow

Clear Shape Technologies has announced a partnership with semiconductor technology Academic Research Centre (STARC), Japan's leading semiconductor technology research organisation, to jointly develop, validate and deploy a variability-aware DFM flow. The flow includes InShape for systematic variability analysis that enables optimisation during implementation using commercial routing tools.

A number of issues have come to light within the area of ultra-miniature technologies under 65nm, including the design dependency of processing accuracy in semiconductor construction and production fluctuations.

For this reason design for manufacturing (DFM) has become extremely important.

STARC develops and promotes the practical application of DFM technologies with the aim of achieving 45 and 32nm SoCs.

This requires unprecedented cross functional co-operation between various companies and disciplines, and STARC is uniquely equipped to do this.

A complete plan to address variability that includes practical design considerations has been developed by working closely with the member companies.

'We are committed to investigating, evaluating and delivering advanced methodologies to address critical DFM issues', said Nobuyuki Nishiguchi, Vice President and General Manager, Development Department-1 at STARC.

'Working with emerging and innovative technology leaders like Clear Shape and delivering proven methodologies to our member companies is our prime value'.

'Clear Shape's technology is ideally suited for this project since it is OPC-tool independent yet it has proven silicon accuracy', he added.

'STARC is a highly respected research organisation that provides a fertile ground for innovative solutions along with the expertise from their member companies to successfully deliver methodologies to address variability issues', said Atul Sharan, president and CEO of Clear Shape.

'We are confident our partnership will lead to highly practical variability-aware DFM flows to enable advanced chip designs', he concluded.
