Phone line monitor
mops up discrete circuitry
The CPC5710N phone line monitor IC implements telephone line interface functions, previously available only with discrete components, saving printed-circuit board space and cost
Using Clare Litelink technologies, the CPC5710N is a CMOS special-purpose amplifier with an additional comparator circuit. The common-mode rejection ratio of over 40dB makes the CPC5710N excellent for telephone line condition sensing, discrete voice recording, and signal monitoring applications.

"By leveraging Clare's core telephony competency and Litelink silicon DAA (data access arrangement) technology, the CPC5710N delivers a superior solution to designers of telephone network interfaces", said Mark Heisig, Clare Vice-President of Technology and Business Development.
The CPC5710N can be used by itself for phone line monitoring applications, or it can be used in conjunction with the Clare CPC5621A Litelink phone line interface IC/DAA for a complete voice or data phone line interface solution with line condition sensing.
The CPC5710N amplifier section has a fixed gain, high input impedance, differential amplifier architecture that offers better longitudinal balance performance compared to traditional discrete designs.

The amplifier linear output can be used in differential or single-ended applications.
The comparator circuit can be used as a full-wave ringing detection circuit with its internal threshold, large hysteresis, and CMOS output.
In signal monitoring applications, the CPC5710 can be used for display feature (caller-ID), signal processing, and discrete voice monitoring or recording.
When used in voice monitoring or voice recording applications, the CPC5710N is virtually undetectable on the telephone line.
The CPC5710 detects ringing signals with the built-in comparator.
Ringing detection threshold is settable via external component selection.
In line condition sensing applications, the CPC5710N can be used for line polarity indication, line-in-use detection (another phone off-hook), battery presence monitoring, and tip lead and ring lead voltage monitoring.
Application circuits supplied in the CPC5710N datasheet meet all worldwide telephone network compatibility requirements, including isolation requirements.
Designs using the CPC5710N can be made compliant with a wide range of requirements, including TIA/EIA/IS-968 (FCC part 68), UL1950, UL60950, EN60950, IEC60950, EN55022B, CISPR22B, EN55024, EIA/TIA 464, and TBR-21.
The CPC5710N is packaged in a small 8-pin SOIC package, with TTL compatible inputs and CMOS logic outputs.
The CPC5710N operates on either a 3.3 or 5V power supply.
