Amplifier supports speedy sampling
A miniature high-speed stand-alone sample-and-hold amplifier provides highly accurate capture and hold of fast signals and pulses in a wide range of analogue signal processing applications
C and D Technologies has introduced a new miniature high-speed stand-alone sample-and-hold amplifier. The SHM-50 is designed to provide highly accurate capture and hold of fast signals and pulses in a wide range of analogue signal processing applications such as those found in high-speed multichannel multiple-event pieces of equipment.

Murata to acquire power electronics operations
C and D Technologies has agreed to sell its Power Electronics Division to Murata for US $85 million cash
The new device provides a useful alternative to engineers who have previously only been able to obtain sample-and-hold functionality integrated within an analogue-to-digital convertor.
With a small-signal bandwidth of 70MHz, the SHM-50 is available in either a through-hole or surface-mount 8-pin mini-DIP.
The device is a complete sample-and-hold circuit containing a precision MOS hold capacitor and a MOSFET switching configuration.
This results in faster switching and excellent feed-through attenuation of -78dB.
A TTL interface is also included within the specification.
A FET input amplifier design allows a fast acquisition time of only 40ns for a 2V step to +/-0.01% accuracy, and 50ns to +/-0.005% - equivalent to 14bit accuracy.
Fast sample-to-hold settling times of typically 30ns to +/-0.01% are also achieved while maintaining a considerably lower droop rate and an aperture uncertainty of just +/-2ps.
The SHM-50 requires a supply voltage of +/-5V and has a typical power consumption of 225mW.
Operating temperature range for the SHM-50MC through-hole version is 0 to +70C, whereas the SHM-50MM version is suitable for use between -55 and +125C.
