The first nonisolated DC/DC convertors from C and D Technologies (NCL) are compact and highly integrated devices that provide embedded application designers with step-down switching functionality at efficiencies in excess of 94%. Based on the industry standard footprint of a 7805 three-pin regulator, the new NGA nonisolated DC/DC convertors allow designers to save space and reduce power consumption in both new and existing embedded computing applications.

In addition, the ability to operate at between -40 and +85C without derating makes the devices ideal for embedded applications targeted at industrial and other challenging environments.
The new converters are available with output options of 1.8-3.3 and 5.0V DC, and can accommodate a wide input voltage range of between 4.75 and 28V (at full 2A output current).
Built-in functionality includes short-circuit protection and a pin for remote on/off operation.
Device dimensions are just 21 x 21 x 5mm.
Offering fast transient response levels, the NGA DC/DC convertors use a very high switching frequency of around 300kHz and feature a ceramic construction that ensures thermal stability.
In addition to the high efficiency operation, a low typical standby current of just 100uA helps to further minimise power consumption.
Available now, pricing for the NGA is around $10 in OEM quantities.
