Bluetooth chip takes in all new
revisions

Cambridge Silicon Radio has released its third-generation single-chip silicon, marking a major step in the evolution of Bluetooth silicon.
Flexible configuration for single-chip Bluetooth
BlueCore3-External is a flexible configuration that supports all optional and all mandatory features of the recently adopted Bluetooth version 1.2 specification, in a single-chip solution.
BlueCore3 also includes all the optional controller features of the new standard and improves coexistence with other 2.4GHz radios making it ideal for use in a wide range of Bluetooth applications.
eSCO (extended synchronous connection oriented) channels are error checking voice channels that allow the retransmission of corrupted voice data.
As data rates can be negotiated via eSCO, the overall high quality-of-service connection is improved.
With eSCO in place in BlueCore3, the detection and retransmission of lost or destroyed voice packets allows minimum impact on real-time performance, thus making it particularly suitable for high quality voice transmission.
Over the last two years, CSR has been central to the development of AFH, a feature now integrated into Bluetooth v1.2.
AFH co-ordinates the frequency used by Bluetooth and other 2.4GHz radio devices such as WiFi, to reduce the likelihood of interference.
This makes CSR's BlueCore3 even more suitable for a number of combo designs where WiFi and Bluetooth are required to work together.
Fast Connect significantly improves the usability of Bluetooth devices for the user by allowing connection times to be reduced by an order of magnitude.
Robin Heydon, Technical Consultant, CSR and member of the Bluetooth Architectural Review Body commented: "We have worked closely with the SIG since Bluetooth's inception.
