Single-chip Bluetooth enables wireless combo
Cambridge Silicon Radio has collaborated with Intersil and SMART Modular Technologies to produce a mini-PCI card combining Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless protocols
The module, Bluetooth-enabled by CSR's BlueCore2, includes: Flash memory; bandpass filters and other passives contained within the device; an RF and baseband one-chip IC, crystal oscillator; and additional passives that are mounted on the substrate.
Eric Janson, worldwide vice president of marketing, CSR commented, "Murata required a Bluetooth chip that would enable them to produce the smallest Bluetooth modules possible without having to comprise on functionality".
Janson continued, "CSR's BlueCore2, with its fully qualified silicon, small footprint down to 6x6mm and full featured Bluetooth protocol stack enables OEMs like Murata to produce modules with a very short time to market".
"Through our pioneering technology, Murata offers this advanced solution to customers so they can focus on their core competencies.
With our Blue Module we eliminate the hassle of placing the IC on a printed circuit board and mount the supporting passives, memory and matching components nearby to give our customers more space for less money", said Harufumi Mandai, Vice President of Component Division III for Murata Manufacturing Co.
