ATI Technologies has used the Cadence Incisive Palladium acceleration and emulation system to verify some of its highly complex designs

ATI Technologies has selected the Cadence Incisive Palladium acceleration and emulation system to verify some of its highly complex designs. The Palladium accelerator/emulator, a key technology of the Incisive functional verification platform, provides the speed and efficiency that is critical for verification of advanced integrated circuits that require high-performance processing and memory.

ATI joins an established list of leading graphics companies that have purchased the Palladium system in the past 12 months, further strengthening the position of Cadence as the preferred emulation supplier to companies developing complex multimedia ASICs.

"High-performance products and faster time-to-market are key to maintaining leadership", said Dave DiOrio, Vice President, Engineering, ATI.

"We chose the Cadence Palladium accelerator/emulator because of its superior technology in our design space".

"The Palladium system provided the features we needed to meet stringent product delivery schedules and increased our ability to test our ASICs and application-level software".

"The Palladium system enhanced our testing productivity by providing fast compile time, efficient debug, high run-time performance, and excellent target interface solutions".

"The result was more highly tested silicon and system software".

DiOrio continues that the Palladium accelerator/emulator enabled ATI to verify chips in a fast, efficient way, which is critical for meeting the stringent time-to-market requirements for consumer end-products.

Additionally, DiOrio adds that the processor-based Palladium accelerator/emulator was selected because of its superior price/performance capabilities compared to other emulation solutions.

"ATI serves as an example of how design teams can take advantage of the high-performance capabilities that our Palladium accelerator/emulator offers, including remote access capability", said Christopher Tice, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Verification Acceleration, Cadence.

"Hardware design teams can provide their software teams with access to the design for software development long before silicon is ready".

ATI used the Cadence PCI/PCI-X, PCI Express and Video SpeedBridge solutions to aid in the verification process of its designs.

SpeedBridge products are vertical application solutions and available as prebuilt or customised products that help customers quickly create complete emulation environments for a variety of needs.

For example, the PCI Express SpeedBridge solution manages communications between the developer's software development platform (running on a PC) and the emulator by converting PCI-X transactions to PCI Express transactions and vice-versa.
