'Many of our key customers want to purchasesubsystems rather than components so they can optimise thepayback on their own engineering resource.

By combining,Bookham's leadership in optical technology and designstrength with BTI's system platform and management softwareleadership, we are creating a competitive alliance to deliverleading edge subsystems for the intelligent opticalnetwork', said Steve Turley, Chief Commercial Officer forBookham Technology.

'The enhanced solutions we will be ableto offer will complement our existing product lines and willallow us to address an expanded market'.

The associationprovides customised, cost-effective solutions for the opticallink layer.

State-of-the-art optics will be incorporated in anintelligent subsystem which has full environmental compliance andeasy integration into the user's network management system. The companies' new integrated optical products will includea cost effective 1U rack mount EDFA subsystem, and a fullfeatured, highly scalable 2U subsystem offering advanced signalconditioning and expansion capabilities.

The systems will be madeavailable worldwide through both Bookham and BTI sales channels.'The combination of BTI and Bookham teaming up togethercreates a powerful force in our industry.
