Bookham Technology is developing dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) products, known as optical spectrum analysis modules with switching input

Bookham Technology is developing dense wavelength divisionmultiplexing (DWDM) products, known as optical spectrum analysismodules with switching input. Following a preliminary technicaland development phase, which commenced in late 2000, thesemodules are now being delivered and have been designed forevaluation in Nortel Network's next generation long-haultransmission systems.

The optical spectrum analysis module (OSAM)with switching input monitors optical power levels in DWDMsystems.

This module combines three levels of opticalfunctionality on a single silicon chip (switching, demultiplexingand detecting) and is capable of analysing over 400 channels atup to 40Gbit/s.

The module demonstrates the extent to which theASOC platform can allow integration of multiple functionality.Giorgio Anania, President and CEO, Bookham Technology said'We believe there will be a large market for DWDM monitoringproducts and we are well positioned to support this area.

Thecompany is committing substantial resources to enhance the rangeof optical functionality from the ASOC platform.

We arecontinuing to see a positive response from our customers'.
