The new California Instruments iX Series of fully featured high-output AC and DC power sources can be configured to provide up to 30kVA of power from a compact package

Offering an output of 3 or 5kVA per unit and a cabinet height of only 178mm, the iX Series is probably the most compact AC/DC power unit available today. The units offer a range of facilities including transient generation, arbitrary waveform generation and standard power measurement and analysis capabilities.

A sophisticated digital signal processor is at the heart of both the arbitrary waveform generator and the power analyser, providing an integrated, multi-instrument approach that effectively eliminates the need for additional equipment to create an AC and DC power test system.

Using a large graphical LCD display, the advanced measurement and analysis capabilities can be accessed directly from the front panel without the need for remote control.

For ATE applications, both IEEE488 and RS232C interfaces are included, and Windows graphical user interface application software comes with each iX unit.

Configuration options include multiple-unit single-phase as well as multiple-unit three-phase systems for power output levels from 3 to 30kVA.

Multiple-unit systems can be field reconfigured to provide two or more smaller systems or a single high-power system using the MB multibox option, providing a high degree of flexibility to meet different application requirements by using the same building blocks.

The extended output frequency range of 16 to 500Hz makes the iX Series suitable for both commercial and avionics applications.

Dual voltage ranges provide maximum output current at any programmed voltage up to 300V.

The built-in measurement and analysis functions eliminate the need for additional test equipment.

The low distortion output of the iX Series and its programmable output impedance provide an excellent platform for IEC harmonics and flicker testing, and make the iX Series ideal for use as an integral part of any IEC compliance test system.

California Instruments products are available exclusively in the UK from Thurlby Thandar Instruments.
