Avocent Corp and Agilent Technologies have signed an agreement for Avocent to purchase assets and to license technology used by Agilent in its remote management business

Agilent's customers for this product line will now be obtaining products and services from Avocent. The purchase of this business line is not expected to be material to Avocent's financial results for the first quarter of 2006. Remote management products allow administrators to remotely connect to and manage systems, ensuring cost savings for IT managers.

Agilent's remote management products include integrated hardware solutions and management software that ensure higher availability of business-critical systems, such as servers.

Agilent products that will be transferred to Avocent include integrated remote management chips and cards, and software utilities.

'As the KVM and remote management market leader, our customers look to us to raise the bar to push remote management technology to the next level', said Mark Lee, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Avocent Corp.

'The Agilent remote management business will significantly expand our agentless management platform to offer leading-edge solutions that match and exceed our OEM customers' needs'.

'Agilent's products complement Avocent's products'.

'We plan to leverage their expertise to provide additional integrated solutions that include IPMI, KVM and SMASH technologies'.

'Agilent's decision to focus on being the premier provider of test and measurement equipment and Avocent's focus on providing robust remote management tools made this a natural move for our remote management and diagnostics business', said Christiane Roche, Business Manager for Remote Systems Management and KVM solutions in Agilent's Electronic Measurement Group.

'The combination of Avocent's leadership as the number one IPMI, KVM and remote management supplier together with Agilent's remote management products will offer an even more compelling value proposition'.
