Arcom is demonstrating its commitment to industrial wireless network gateways by joining the ZigBee Alliance at the participant level.

Arcom is demonstrating its commitment to industrial wireless network gateways by joining the ZigBee Alliance at the participant level.

The ZigBee Alliance is an international association of companies working together to enable and promote ZigBee wireless technology as an open standard.

ZigBee is a low-power, low-cost, wireless mesh networking technology designed for monitoring and control applications in industry and home automation.

Arcom already produces a range of wireless network gateways and edge routers for use with RFID and cellular radio technology.

Arcom has also been producing industrial network gateways using private spread-spectrum radio networks, iDEN and GPRS cellular radios, and low-earth orbit satellite technology for over 10 years.

It is now developing an IEEE802.15.4/ZigBee ready radio product using Chipcon's industry leading CS2420 device for low power mesh networking applications.

"Arcom has many years experience producing network gateway devices which link legacy and proprietary devices to standard LAN, W-LAN and cellular networks" said Glen Middleton, Managing Director of Arcom in Cambridge.

"And, as a participant member, we look forward to contributing to the activities of the Gateway Working Group within the Alliance".

Arcom will soon launch a rugged, low-power network gateway product based on ARM/XScale technology with integrated IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee capability.

Further announcements will appear later this year.
