Electronic Solutions, a business unit of APW, has introduced a completely new range of low-cost user-configurable desktop or rack mounting VME chassis, designed for housing a production system or for use in a software/hardware development environment. The system integrator can define the key aspects of the unit by creating a unique order code from a simple configurator, enabling the system to be precisely characterised to its operational requirements. The VMS is available in heights of 3, 4, 6 and 9U in both desktop and 19in rack mount versions.
In the desktop version, housed in the attractive Diplomat enclosure, the 6U 160 or 220mm deep KM6-II subrack is mounted horizontally in the 3 and 4U versions; in the 6 and 9U versions, it is vertically oriented.
In the horizontal units, side-to-side cooling is provided, in the vertical units, except for the 6U version, a fan tray fitted with three 120mm fans is fitted in the base with the hot air exhausting through the rear.
Three different types of backplanes can be specified - standard monolithic, VME64x and VITA.41 - all available in widths from five to 21 slots.
The 12-layer VME64x family can be supplied with or without P0 and 3.3V.
All backplane designs feature multiple signal, power and ground planes to minimise crosstalk and improve signal integrity.
PSU options include a 350W ATX, 450, 650 and 1000W standard or intelligent open frame units or, interfacing with a separate power interface board, one or two 300W pluggable units.
Front panel system reset is provided on all systems, for systems fitted with intelligent PSUs, the VME AC fail and system fail service functions are also enabled.
For deployment in harsh environments, or for use as a COTS component in military applications, the VMS can be fitted with additional EMC screening or ruggedised for operation in extreme temperatures.
A wide range of accessories such as peripheral mounting adapters, blanking panels and other modules are available.
