The latest release of HFSS introduces new capabilities for design-flow efficiency that allow users to easily share CAD models and results across existing CAD/CAE products

The latest release of Ansoft's flagship high-frequency/high-speed electromagnetic design product introduces new capabilities for design-flow efficiency that allow users to easily share CAD models and results across existing CAD/CAE products. HFSS v10 further offers dynamic-link technology, which allows HFSS to cosimulate with other Ansoft products and extends HFSS applications to include RF/analogue IC codesign, EMI/EMC and microwave heating.

For HFSS users, the ability to reuse third-party CAD models and EDA layouts saves engineering time and allows designers to spend more time optimising performance.

HFSS v10 includes new model healing, meshing technology and model-resolution techniques that simplify the model translation and meshing process.

These new features are designed to help users maximise the benefits of a virtual prototyping design flow by leveraging their investments across existing software products.

HFSS v10 expands Ansoft's dynamic-link technology from Ansoft Designer to also include dynamic links to Nexxim, SIwave, Maxwell and ePhysics for a broader range of end-user applications, including RF/analogue IC, EMI/EMC, chip-package-board codesign and microwave heating.

A host of additional new features, such as optical incident wave sources, analysis prioritisation, queuing and distributed network processing, user-constructed convergence criteria and support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows XP Professional x64 further the solving power of HFSS v10.

'With the introduction of HFSS v10, I am excited that we are providing significant productivity gains to our current install base while empowering codesign for a new class of engineer working in the areas of EMI/EMC, microwave heating, RF/analogue IC and multigigabit designs', said Dr Zoltan Cendes, Ansoft's Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.

Highlights of HFSS v10 include new geometry translation, model resolution and meshing technology implemented in a unique auto-interactive user interface that renders electrically unimportant geometric artefacts invisible to the simulation and characterisation process.

New dynamic links within HFSS and between Ansoft Designer/Nexxim, SIwave and Maxwell/ePhysics deliver intelligent cosimulation for complex microwave, RF/analogue and high-speed systems, EMI/EMC and microwave heating.

New incident wave additions of plane, spherical, cylindrical, Gaussian and linear antenna-wave types broaden the utility of HFSS to compute antennas and scattering applications into the optical domain.

Finally, new and improved analysis configuration, control and management allow users to use available hardware resources and distribute analyses over a network of computers, thereby reducing overall analysis time.

HFSS v10 is available on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and XP Professional x64; Sun Solaris 8+; HP HP-UX 11+; and Red Hat Enterprise Linux v3.
