High-frequency design software
for free download

Ansoft Designer SV is a free, full-featured linear simulator for high-frequency microwave and radio frequency (RF) circuit and system design

Ansoft Designer SV, available for download from the Ansoft website, provides engineering professionals and students with linear frequency-domain circuit simulation technology and a design environment that are comparable to that of the commercial version of Ansoft Designer. "Ansoft's high-frequency software tools have been at Syracuse University for years in both coursework and research on antennas, filters and amplifiers.

With the release of Ansoft Designer SV, we look forward to providing even greater benefit to our microwave engineering students as well as our ongoing work with industry leaders", said Dr Ercument Arvas, Professor at Syracuse University.

"By providing this version of Ansoft's high-frequency circuit-design tool, our students have the opportunity to develop practical designs while becoming proficient at using commercial-grade design software".

Design professionals can fully incorporate the linear designs they create in Ansoft Designer SV into the commercial version of Ansoft Designer and HFSS, Ansoft's industry-standard software for 3D electromagnetic (EM) design and analysis.

This allows engineers to create a greater number of designs in Ansoft software without having to purchase and learn how to use additional software that isn't compatible with the Ansoft desktop.

"We're integrating the commercial version of this powerful software into several of our graduate and undergraduate microwave engineering classes", said Dr Thomas X.

"We chose Ansoft Designer because it's the first suite of design tools to fully integrate high-frequency, physics-based electromagnetic simulation into a seamless, easy-to-use environment".

Ansoft Designer SV includes: a powerful, intuitive desktop; a complete set of linear component electrical models; Ansoft proprietary physics-based distributed models; a fully integrated schematic/layout editor; filter synthesis; transmission-line synthesis; frequency-domain linear simulator; a Smith Tool matching utility; a single-database software architecture that supports fully synchronised design entry based on schematic, netlist and/or layout editing; components, including an electrical model, symbol for schematic editing and, in most cases, a fixed or parameterised layout cell; a large number of circuit models for lumped, ideal and physical distributed microstrip, stripline and coax transmission lines; and a device library that includes a set of vendor parts based on linear surface mount passive and active models and S-parameters.

Ansoft Designer SV supports applications such as filter design, passive power dividers/combiners, matching networks, couplers and more.

Data import of S-, Y- and Z-parameters allows designers to compare simulated results with measured and/or electromagnetic simulation data.

Serenade SV and Ensemble SV, Ansoft Designer SV's predecessor products, generated more than 10,000 downloads since last November.
