'The ADF7901 features a straightforward interface as well as high integration which are key benefits in the design of wireless remote controls'.
The ADF7901 is a low-power OOK/FSK UHF transmitter designed for use in RF remote control applications.
Providing an extremely low-power solution, the monolithic transmitter IC delivers +12dBm of output power at 384MHz, while drawing only 26mA of current.
Using a fractional-N PLL and fully integrated VCO, the transmitter provided 369.5 to 395.9MHz frequency operation.
The device is also capable of frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation on eight different channels, selectable by three external control lines, thus eliminating the need for an external, expensive microcontroller.
OOK modulation can be performed on the ADF7901 by modulating the PA control line.
The on-chip VCO operates at 2x the output frequency, and the divide by two at the output of the VCO reduces the amount of PA feedthrough.
As a result of this, OOK modulation depths of greater than 50dB are easily achievable.
The FSK-ADJ and ASK-ADJ resistors can be adjusted in the system to optimise output power, for each modulation scheme.
An additional 1.5dB of output power is provided for the lower bank of channels to adjust for antenna performance.
The CE line allows the transmitter to be powered down completely, and in this mode the leakage current is typically only 0.1uA.
The new ADF7901 transmitter IC is available now, priced at $1.89 per unit in quantities of 1000.
It is packaged in a 24-lead TSSOP (thin shrink small outline package).
