Flexible regulation for mobile PCs
The latest power controller from Analog Devices forms the basis of the first chipset to meet both current and future Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP) specifications
The new Analog Devices ADP3204 controller can be combined with the company's ADP3415 dual MOSFET driver to form the first three-phase controller/driver chipset to be fully compliant with the IMVP-III specification and backward-compatible with IMVP-II. This key feature allows OEMs to use the same core convertor solution for both generations.

The Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP) specifications are designed to maximise the operating time of notebook computers by carefully minimising the core voltage and frequency of the CPU to scale its performance with the demands of the system.
Computer OEMs can now build a dedicated triple-phase core convertor solution with well-balanced current sharing and superior transient response based on the ADP3204 and ADP3415.
A key feature of the ADP3204 is the pin-selectable single-, two- or three-phase operation.

Operating out of phase, the devices efficiently drive the power mosfet switches of a nonisolated synchronous buck power convertor topology with minimised ripple.
The ADP3204 also includes adaptive noise blanking for high speed and easy board layout, as well as highly redundant over- and undervoltage protection.
These features make the ADP3204 an attractive solution for mobile voltage regulator designers working with computer manufacturers to optimise the performance of their Pentium 4 notebook.
The ADP3204 is packaged a in 32-pin 5 x 5mm chip scale package (CSP), specified for operation over the industrial temperature range between 0 and +100C.
OEM pricing in 10,000-piece quantities is $2.40.
Samples and production volumes are available now from stock.
