The time taken to bring mobile handsets and devices to market is set to reduce by as much as 50% following the signing of a multi-million-dollar agreement between Sasken Communication Technologies and Anite Telecoms. Under the agreement, Sasken will license its 3GPP conformance test scripts to be ported onto the Anite testing platform, enabling 3G terminal developers to complete compliance testing much earlier.
Through the development of its own 3GPP protocol stack first delivered to customers in September 2000, Sasken has already written and tested more than 500 of the 3G test scripts defined by ETSI and 3GPP.
The Sasken offering represents, by far, the most comprehensive suite of test scripts available on the market today and is more than a year ahead of the nearest competition.
"If an individual 3G developer were to initiate writing and internally validating the majority of 3G test scripts, it would take more than two years", explains Prabhas Kumar, Vice President, Networks Division at Sasken.

"By combining our leadership in conformance test scripts with Anite's capabilities in the provision of test equipment, terminal manufacturers are assured of a network compliance solution that will significantly reduce time to market requirements and development costs".
Sasken's leadership in 3G core software development is evidenced by the fact that the company's terminal protocol stack is already being licensed by many leading global chipset suppliers including Intel, Cellular 3G and Yozan.
"3G solutions developers are looking to reduce time-to-market while, at the same time, maintaining the highest possible levels of quality and conformance", says Anite Telecoms director, Daniel Oosthuizen.
"The integration of Sasken's comprehensive test scripts with our powerful 3G test platforms will enable them to achieve all these objectives".
