Alphasem will officially open its new application and training centre in the industrial district of Penang on 20th January 2006 to further strengthen process and application support in Southeast Asia.

Alphasem is one of the leading suppliers of die attach systems and die sort systems in the back-end sector of semiconductor production.

The Swiss based company has also become the market leader for clip-attach technology.

With this technology, a solid copper bridge replaces a thin copper or aluminium wire to connect a semiconductor chip with its surrounding.

This results in unbeaten performance characteristics for power discrete devices.

"With the new application and training centre in Penang, we are able to support all of our Asian customers faster, in application- and process-relevant technique of die attach and die sorting".

"In particular we use the Penang base to support the clip attach market efficiently and provide customer training", says Urs Hirsiger, Vice President Sales and Marketing.

The new subsidiary will bring Alphasem closer to its countless customers in Southeast Asia.

Experts with background in engineering and field service support the customers and their manufacturing processes, helping design clip frames, setting up the production process and supplying the necessary tools such as dispense tools, clip tools and punch tools.

The clip attach competence centre is equipped with a fully functional clip attach production line.

Besides providing all the knowledge specific to clip attach, the application team designs and develops all kind of application parts for the complete range of Alphasem die attach systems, thereby reducing delivery time of these customer specific parts.

The proximity of the training centre and the clip attach competence centre will keep training up to date and as close as possible to the real production environment.

The trainees have direct access to a fully equipped clip attach line, and hands-on experience is a major feature of these classes.
