The A6818 driver IC combines a 32bit CMOS shift register, accompanying data latches and control circuitry with bipolar sourcing outputs and PNP active pull-down devices

The new A6818 driver integrated circuit from Allegro MicroSystems uses the company's DABiC-IV (digital/analogue/bipolar fourth-generation) integrated-circuit process to combine a 32bit CMOS shift register, accompanying data latches and control circuitry with bipolar sourcing outputs and PNP active pull-down devices.

Designed primarily to drive vacuum-fluorescent displays, the device features 60V and -40mA output ratings that allow it to be used in many other peripheral power driver applications.

The high data input rate (up to 33MHz with a 3.3 or 5V logic supply) is combined with a controlled output slew rate which reduces electromagnetic noise effects.

The CMOS shift register and latches allow direct interfacing with microprocessor-based systems, while a CMOS serial data output permits cascade connections in applications requiring additional drive lines.

The output source drivers are NPN Darlingtons capable of sourcing up to 40mA.

For inter-digit blanking, all output drivers can be disabled and all sink drivers turned on with the blanking input high.

The PNP active pull-down circuits will sink at least 2.5mA.

Three temperature ranges are available for optimum performance in commercial, industrial or automotive (suffix K-) applications.

Package styles are provided for through-hole DIP or minimum-area surface-mount PLCC applications.

Copper lead frames, low logic-power dissipation, and low output-saturation voltages allow these devices to drive most multiplexed vacuum-fluorescent displays over the maximum operating temperature range.
