Hot-pluggable transceiver for Fibre Channel
Agilent Technologies has announced volume availability of its 2Gbit/s small-form-pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs).
These attributes make it an excellent value for consumer and office applications, ranging from scanners, printers, refrigerators, and washing machines, to industrial sewing machines and miniature motors.
The AEDR 8300-1Wx reflective optical encoder is supplied in a lead-free RoHS (reduction of hazardous substances)-compliant surface-mount package with dimensions of 5.12 mm by 3.96 mm by 1.63 mm.
It provides a two-channel quadrature output with resolution of 212 LPI (lines per inch) or 8.35 lines per mm and a count frequency up to 60 kHz.
The count frequency is higher than Avago's other miniature surface-mount reflective optical encoders, which allows the encoder to operate with higher-speed motors.
The AEDR-8300-1Wx single voltage supply draws 18.9mA (including 15mA LED current) at 3.3V, typical.
The AEDR-8300 series is also available in resolution options of 36, 75,150, and 180 LPI supporting a 5 V supply with a maximum count frequency of 30 KHz.
The series consists of an LED light source, a special photodetector IC with integrated electronics, and integrated optics.
It can be used with a reflective code wheel to sense rotary position and velocity, or with a linear code strip to sense linear position and velocity.
The device provides two-channel digital outputs in quadrature, which offers both count and direction information.
It is insensitive to axial play and maintains performance and accuracy over a wide variation in the gap between sensor and code wheel or strip.
"The AEDR-8300 offers excellent value, performance and high temperature operation for new designs with improved functionality with the assurance of RoHS compliance," said Hassan Hussain, general manager of Avago Technologies' Motion Control Products Division.
