Low-cost easy-to-use SOT-363 amplifiers offer high linearity and low noise with adjustable current via external resistor to simplify system design
Agilent Technologies has two new low-cost easy-to-use GaAs MMIC gain block amplifiers that provide high linearity, low noise and other key features to simplify system design. These amplifiers operate from 0.1 to 6GHz and use state-of-the-art E-pHEMT (enhancement-mode pseudomorphic high-electron-mobility transistor) technology in a compact SOT-363 surface-mount package.

Today's wireless market places a high priority on time to market for new products.
The Agilent MGA-6x563 series amplifiers accelerate time to market by offering a "smart bias" and 50ohm match capability that simplifies system design.
Designers can replace many different fixed-bias amplifiers by using the MGA-6x563's single external resistor to adjust the device's performance.

This minimises the number of external components required for matching and bias circuitry, thereby reducing the number of parts manufacturers need to specify and purchase.
The Agilent MGA-61563 and MGA-62563 amplifiers are primarily directed toward wireless applications such as cellular/PCS/WCDMA (wideband code-division multiple access) basestation radio cards, WLL (wireless local loop), WLAN (wireless local area network), fixed wireless access and other high-performance applications.
The Agilent MGA-61563 is recommended as a low-noise amplifier (LNA) or driver amplifier operating at up to 6GHz.
The Agilent MGA-62563 is recommended as an IF (intermediate frequency) amplifier operating at up to 3GHz.
At 2GHz, the Agilent MGA-61563 features +28.5dBm third-order output intercept point (OIP3), +16dBm linear output power (P1dB), 16.6dB gain and 1.2dB noise figure (NF).
At 500MHz, the Agilent MGA-62563 features +32.9dBm OIP3, +18dBm P1dB, 22dB gain and 0.9dB NF.
The "smart bias" feature of these gain block amplifiers allows the drain current to be reduced, thus reducing the system's DC power drain, by adjusting the value of a single external resistor.
In applications where the highest possible linearity (OIP3) is not necessary, reducing power consumption allows the device to run cooler, which increases its reliability.
Agilent MGA-6x563 series E-pHEMT gain block amplifiers are available through Agilent's direct sales channel and through Agilent's worldwide distribution partners.
