Top rank for Agere in comms chip survey
Electronics market research firm iSuppli has ranked Agere as the number one provider of semiconductors for the equipment that makes up the world's voice and datacommunications networks
iSuppli has just released a report entitled "Networking and optical communications 2003 competitive analysis-market share and supplier analysis", that shows Agere held the largest share of the market for semiconductors sold into wired communications applications in 2002. According to iSuppli's report, Agere also ranked first in the supply of semiconductors to both the Sonet/SDH framers and mappers and ATM segments.

In these two segments, Agere overwhelmingly leads, with 26.6% of Sonet/SDH and 30% of the ATM segment.
"Agere held on to the number one position in wired communications ICs in what was one of the most difficult market environments the semiconductor industry has ever seen", said Steve Rago, Principal Analyst of iSuppli's networking and optical practice.
