Dynamic bearing system extends fan life
DC fans are now available with a novel fluid dynamic bearing system that promises longer life at less cost
Many new DC fans in the Adda range are now fitted with the new FDB fluid dynamic bearing system. Available in fans with frame sizes of 60, 70, 80, 92 and 120mm, this new bearing system will complement the existing sleeve, dual ball bearing and one-ball and one-sleeve configurations, costing less than the dual ball system but boasting greatly enhanced life expectancy.

The life expectancy (L10) for FDB bearings at nominal 25C is 70kh compared with 50kh for dual ball and 30kh for sleeve bearing systems.
Noise levels are similar to that of ball and sleeve bearing constructions.
The structure of this new bearing is such that there is no metal contact between the shaft and the bearing.
This is achieved by a V figured groove that generates the dynamic fluid pressure on the inner surface of a sintered metal sleeve allowing dynamic pressure to build up in the centre of the shaft.
FDB bearings can endure temperatures up to 90C and as there is no mechanical contact during revolution therefore there is no oil reduction and no oil quality change and, of course, no leakage.
They will be ideal for all applications where rugged long life fans are required and have the considerable advantage that standard commercially available units will meet many military specifications.
