Si2 takes over
baton of OpenKit Initiative
Materials associated with Accellera's efforts towards an OpenKit Initiative are being transferred to the Silicon Integration Initiative
Accellera, the electronics industry organisation focused on language-based design standards, and the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2), an organisation focused on improving the way integrated circuits are designed and manufactured, today announced that materials associated with Accellera's efforts towards an OpenKit Initiative are being transferred to Si2.

Board sets the standard in verification
The Accellera Board of Directors has approved the SCE-MI 2.0 specification as an Accellera verification standard
In alignment with Si2's goals and initiatives, this transfer demonstrates a new level of co-operation between two of the most effective standards organisations in the electronic design industry.
The OpenKit Initiative was dedicated to establishing standards for the physical design kits used by all integrated circuit (IC) designers.
These standards are targeted at improving interoperability and cycle time efficiencies across the electronics-design chain, while decreasing custom intellectual property (IP) and IC design costs.
Continuing interest in physical design kits comes from IC designers, IP providers and EDA suppliers alike.
The OpenKit materials being transferred define a custom-design schematic symbol kit which categorises the common data sets, files, models and IC processes, which are important to establish common design flows.

Unified Coverage Interoperability
Accellera has announced that its Board of Directors approved the formation of the new Unified Coverage Interoperability Technical Subcommittee (UCI TSC)
Design kits provide information required by EDA tools during the simulation, implementation and verification steps of IC design.
This information includes process design rules, device models, schematic symbols and parameterised cells used for custom layout.
These can be used to enhance interoperability between EDA tools in a design flow.
Si2 will establish appropriate avenues for utilising and releasing these materials to the user community.
'Accellera plays an important role in the electronics industry by defining effective EDA standards'.
'We collaborate with other groups and organisations to develop standards in a timely manner and meet market needs', said Shrenik Mehta, Accellera Chairman.
'The goals from the OpenKit Initiative are a good match with Si2 goals and make Si2 the best place to energise and continue directing future efforts'.
'Si2's holistic system approach to collaborative standards development - and synergy with our OpenAccess and Open modelling initiatives - provides an excellent base to leverage this important physical design kit technology for market success', stated Steve Schulz, President and CEO of Si2.
'This transfer demonstrates not only the increasingly coupled nature of semiconductor design, but also a new level of collaboration among two leading industry organisations'.
'This increased co-operation between Accellera and Si2 will benefit customers throughout the entire electronics industry'.
'At National Semiconductor, we produce high performance analogue devices and subsystems for the electronics market'.
'Analogue design standards are of great interest to us and our end customers', said Andy Tran, Engineering Director, Technology Infrastructure Group at National Semiconductor.
'Standards such as those started by Accellera's OpenKit Initiative and continuing on with Si2 will benefit the entire analogue and custom IC design industry'.
