Start with the news release Varistors protect mobile devices against ESD from Taiyo Yuden, which we summarised at the time by saying "The new EIA 0201 multilayer chip varistors from Taiyo Yuden are designed to protect slim and compact handheld mobile devices against electrostatic discharge (ESD).". Several months prior to that, we featured the news release ESD protection devices have low dynamic resistance from California Micro Devices: "California Micro Devices has launched the CM1242-33CP, the first in a family of small outline electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices.".
In October 2009, we covered the news from AVX - take a look at AVX develops 100pF multilayer varistor device which says: "AVX Corporation has developed a 100pF version of its miniature 0201 Transguard Series multilayer varistor (MLV).".
