Tesco is the first UK supermarket to be able to automate changes in price and information on labels directly from the back office, thanks to an innovative new electronic labelling system. By updating promotional offers and price changes instantly, the system designed and made by ZBD is helping to reduce operational costs and improve accuracy. Tesco has chosen its South Wigston store in Leicester to trial the labels on the delicatessen counter.
ZBD's simple two way wireless system is tipped to help minimise the level of wastage too, by enabling instant reductions in prices on perishable items when needed.
The display uses zero power technology, which only requires power to change images on the display panel.
This means that the wireless operated displays can be easily installed and can last for years on a single set of batteries.
'Tesco is leading the way for UK retailers'.
'Making the shop floor experience as enjoyable and as informative for customers while optimising margins is crucial for success in the supermarket sector', said Manoj Thanigasalam, VP Business Development, ZBD Displays.
'Adoption of the graphical electronic labels will help in this process'.
Attila Winstanley, Tesco Support Office Director said: 'We know how important accurate pricing and clear displays are to our customers, so we wanted to trial the new displays'.
'Making the process simpler for staff and helping to create less waste is great operationally, but customers' views are the deciding factor'.
'So far the feedback has been very positive'.
