ZBD has appointed David Dix as Head of Product Development. Dix brings over 15 years' experience to ZBD and joins from Red-M, a wireless networking solutions provider, where he was UK Product Manager. In his new role, Dix will be responsible for developing ZBD's innovative range of electronic shelf edge labels (ESELs), to provide retailers with the industry's first high-quality "zero-power" displays.

Dix' appointment follows the launch of the company's ESEL reference design at Retail Solutions in July.

Dix will focus on developing an open platform subsystem to simplify the implementation and design of "plug and play" systems.

This will enable product designers to rapidly design in the displays into a variety of applications.

Dix reports to ZBD's Chief Operating Officer, Clive Mayne.

"We are delighted to bring in a proven product development and engineering professional with David's level of expertise at this important stage of ZBD's development", says Mayne.

"David will drive the commercialisation of the product and make it easier for product designers to introduce zero power LCD displays, making it cost-effective for retailers to implement".

Dix adds: "ZBD's displays have excellent optical performance as well as a zero power capability, providing a unique match to retailer's requirements for electronic shelf edge labels that help to reduce the cost of updating thousands of product labels on an often daily basis".

"It is an exciting time at ZBD as the company moves towards delivering its zero power, high-quality solutions to the retail market and I look forward to contributing to the company's future success".

Prior to his role at Red-M, Dix was Head of Research and Development at Perle Systems, a global provider of serial port adapters and terminal servers.

Dix also brings experience from 3D Labs where he was a Senior Software Engineer.
