Xantrex Technology has launched the XPower Micro Inverter for the European market place, allowing people to obtain alternating current electricity from a car's cigarette lighter socket

Xantrex Technology has launched the XPower Micro Inverter for the European market place, allowing people on the move to conveniently obtain alternating current (AC) electricity from a car's cigarette lighter socket. XPower Micro Inverters are approximately the size and weight of a computer mouse and are available in 75W and 175W models.

Both models deliver standard European 230V AC electricity from the 12V direct current (DC) vehicle lighter socket, with receptor options for consumers in the UK and continental Europe.

The XPower Micro Inverter 75 will recharge and power small devices such as mobile phones, laptop computers, camcorders and MP3 players.

The more powerful XPower Micro Inverter 175 can supply electricity for game consoles and TV/DVD combinations.

Consumers can plug in the same AC charger or receptor used at home, avoiding the need to carry multiple direct current (DC) car chargers for a variety of electronic devices.

'Our computer mouse-sized XPower Micro Inverter is more convenient than other European car inverters, which come in a heavy metal box that can get underfoot and slide around in the vehicle', said George Hriscu, Xantrex's Director, Retail Product Marketing.

'Moreover, by eliminating the need to purchase DC car chargers for each individual consumer electronics item, an XPower Micro Inverter saves money'.

XPower Micro Inverters have a flexible lighter socket connector to fit in compact European vehicles with manual transmissions.

If the car engine is not running, the XPower Micro Inverter monitors the car's battery charge and shuts down before the charge becomes too low.

To ensure safe operation, the XPower Micro Inverter also shuts down if it detects an electricity overload or excessive temperature.

XPower by Xantrex Micro Inverters will be available at leading consumer electronics, office equipment and computer stores across Europe, as well as online retail stores.
