The EBC-C3 single board computer has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist for this year's EDN Innovator/Innovation Awards

This exclusive awards programme honours truly outstanding electronic products ranging from integrated circuits to test equipment, as well as the creative engineers who invent them. EDN's technical Editors selected WinSystems' EBC-C3 as an Innovation Awards finalist in the Embedded Products category.

The EBC-C3 represents the integration and migration of desktop PC technology into the harsh environments for industrial applications.

Previously, it was not possible to take full advantage of the processor-intensive operating systems, certain application programs, or networking and GUI environments for demanding applications in blue-collar industries.

But by developing and manufacturing the first fanless, 733 MHz Pentium-compatible SBC with a -40 to +85C operating temperature, this market need is now addressed.

The EBC-C3 is compatible with Microsoft's Windows CE.NET and XPe operating systems along with the applications that run on them.

It also supports Linux and other PC-compatible x86 OS such as QNX and VxWorks.

Its PC software compatibility assures easy program development and checkout.

"We always get an outstanding set of entries to our Innovation programme", said EDN Editor-in-Chief Maury Wright.

"The chosen finalists should be proud of their selection because many worthy products barely missed the cut.

I look forward to meeting with all of the participants at the awards banquet".
