The 4400 mobile phone tester series has two new options for testing 1xEV-DO wireless devices

Willtek Communications has released two new options for testing 1xEV-DO wireless devices. The 4400 mobile phone tester series with the new options has been designed specifically to the requirements of manufacturing sites and repair centres. A true multiformat cellular phone tester, the 4400 supports GSM, GPRS, Edge, CDMA2000 1xRTT, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and now also 1xEV-DO.

The 1xEV-DO testing options can be run on the new version of the 4400 series which has been enhanced for even faster measurements and up-to-date control interfaces.

The 4452 1xEV-DO non-call-mode option and the new 4400 are already available; the completed 4453 1xEV-DO call-mode option will be available as a software update.

Willtek's 1xEV-DO testing solution for the 4400 mobile phone tester series will be presented to the public for the first time at the CTIA Wireless 2006 show in Las Vegas.

Explains Matthias Weber, Director of Product Marketing for Willtek Communications: 'Customers who previewed the new options are excited about the 1xEV-DO testing capabilities and speed of our 4400 series'.

'With a simple upgrade to installed test systems, our testing solution delivers what manufacturers, service providers and repair shops need'.

'Moreover, new customers will get a hardware platform that is easily upgradeable to technology updates and other wireless systems such as 1xEV-DO Rev A and HSDPA'.

'All this is available from Willtek at an excellent price/performance ratio'.

HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is an extension of the Wideband CDMA standard for even higher datarates in the forward link.

The 4400 with the 1xEV-DO option forms a fast, accurate and reliable test system for wireless devices such as mobile phones, wireless PDAs and PC cards.

With its fast power measurements, production sites can use it to precisely align the phone's transmitter within very little time, increasing the production throughput and the quality of the devices.

With its outstanding performance and price, the 4400 provides vendors with extremely low total test cost per wireless device.

As all major cellular standards are available on the 4400 series, it drastically reduces production downtime because one test station can easily switch from one technology to another.

Service centres and the repair loop within manufacturing sites use the 4400 with 1xEV-DO to check the overall transmitter and receiver quality of wireless devices when operating in and out of call mode.

These checks are based on measurements of the modulation quality, the transmit power quality, the radio frequency spectrum and the receiver sensitivity.

The new 1xEV-DO option builds on the recently modified 4400 platform.

The mobile phone tester now comes with an enhanced control processor board that speeds up the measurements.

Automated test scripts running on the 4400 now reduce the test time by 40% for CDMA and 60% for GSM.

This increase in speed has been achieved on the 4405 which even before this enhancement was already one of the fastest production testers.

The improved tester now includes a LAN connector as a standard feature at no additional cost; LAN connectivity previously was an option to the 4400 series.

Production sites and service centres are using the Ethernet connection for remote control, for central storage of test results and for central distribution of software updates and test scripts.

Three USB connectors have been added to the 4400 series, replacing the floppy disk drive and the PCMCIA slots.

Willtek delivers a free USB memory stick with each new 4400 to support the data exchange between instruments or between a 4400 and a PC.

Test engineers apply this useful feature to distribute test scripts and new instrument software and to collect result log files from tests.

Whereas typical engineering testers offer protocol testing capabilities and all sorts of radio tests that are never used in series production and service, the 4400 is designed solely for manufacturing and repair centres.

Optimisation for these applications makes the 4400 very easy to use in an automated testing environment with remote control, in the service environment with built-in test scripts that automate typical test steps, and in manual mode for fault finding.
