Wind River is to support Motorola's first PowerQUICC III product implementation, the MPC8560 communications processor based on the Book E PowerPC e500 core

Wind River will support the MPC8560 with its market-leading embedded software and development tools including the VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), Tornado integrated development environment (IDE), stand-alone hardware bring-up tools and a full complement of networking products and middleware.

The MPC8560 processor is well suited for a number of key Wind River market segments including data networking, storage networking and telecommunications.

Through Motorola and Wind River's Centre of Excellence relationship, Wind River is able to quickly support leading communications processors upon their release with complete, end-to-end solutions for hardware and software development.

Ideal for wired and wireless communications processing tasks, the MPC8560 PowerQUICC III delivers performance headroom for intensive control plane processing tasks and increased forwarding plane bandwidth.

Wind River's product offering will enable MPC8560 system developers to fully leverage new features and benefits of the processor by providing support for the SoC architecture, including the high performance e500 core, L2 cache, MMU, enhanced communications processor module (CPM), dual gigabit Ethernet interfaces, DUART and the PCI-X bus.

Wind River's Diab C/C++ compiler will support the e500 extended instructions and programmer interface.

In addition, Wind River will offer MPC8560 developers with fully integrated on-chip debugging solutions including a hardware reference board as well as the complete range of WindNet networking protocols, WindManage device management components, and networking solution products for switches, routers and access devices.

To enable joint Wind River and Motorola customers to meet their time to market opportunity, the availability of Wind River's embedded software and development tools for the MPC8560 will closely follow the availability of the processor itself.

Wind River will continue to work closely through the Centre of Excellence relationship with Motorola to also support Motorola's MPC8540 processor on its general introduction to the market.
