The need for more mobile backhaul due to bandwidth intensive audio and video services as well as increased usage in other traditional point-to-point microwave markets will benefit the microwave industry through the decade, a new Visant Strategies report finds While the future of the point-to-point microwave industry has been pinned on the impending success of the mobile wireless market and third generation services, the traditional markets served by the microwave industry will also help lead to an estimated $3.4 billion in sales globally in 2011, according to "Point-To-Point Microwave Radio: The Market in 2006 and the Coming Decade." "We don't only see mobile wireless backhaul helping the point-to-point microwave industry realize a large increase in unit shipments, but also trunking, public safety, and broadcast applications leading to more sales," said study author Dan Sweeney
