Tyco cable assembly transmits multimedia content
Tyco Electronics has launched a long-reach, passive cable assembly for projectors and large commercial LCD monitors that complies with the Displayport v1.1a reduced bit rate (RBR) specification.
The assembly is claimed to be the first of its kind to be certified by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), a certification programme that enables consumers to easily identify cable adapter products that have been tested and certified for proper operation via the Displayport certified logo on product packaging.

Tyco Electronics has introduced a long-reach, passive cable assembly that complies with the DisplayPort version 1.1a Reduced Bit Rate specification
The long-reach cable assembly can be used in bulletin and information panels commonly found in large campuses.
By meeting the Displayport RBR compliance specifications, this long-reach cable assembly enables the transmission of multimedia content from a source device, such as a graphic accelerator in a PC, in high-definition (HD) format, to a sink device such as a projector or LCD TV located as far as 15m away.
The cable assembly is available in two lengths: 10m and 15m.
Displayport v1.1a specification defines the next-generation video/audio interface form factor and video/audio content transmission in variable data rate: high bit rate (HBR) at 10.8Gbps and RBR at 6.48Gbps.
HBR is mainly used in short-reach video/audio interconnect applications (a desktop PC to a standalone LCD) whereas RBR is mainly used for long-reach video/audio interconnect applications (notebook PC to a projector).
Both applications use the same interface as well as signalling.
