Lighting platform set for commercial market
Tyco Electronics and Redwood Systems have announced a strategic collaboration to pioneer Redwood's lighting platform in the commercial lighting market.
The platform - a lighting system that fuses intelligent control, communications and power delivery into an integrated, networked system - is claimed to make smart lighting simple and cost-effective, and provide users with expanded ways to visualise and optimise their buildings.
The system, which operates on both LED technology and traditional halogen and fluorescent technology, estimates energy savings up to 75 per cent for standard building lighting.
Tyco Electronics will collaborate with Redwood on a comprehensive solutions package, which includes a combination of the company's core competencies, for integration into this high-level system.
The package will provide the foundational infrastructure necessary to enable, as well as complement, the lighting system, such as commercial premises structured cabling systems, circuit protection devices and interconnect systems.
The platform is composed of three discrete elements that work in concert to create a programmable 'building fabric'.
The three components include the Redwood engine, a central driver that provides and modulates power; the Redwood adapter, a group of sensors at each light fixture; and the Redwood wall switch.
The system, connected with Tyco Electronics low-voltage cabling, facilitates 'plug-and-play' behaviour to reduce installation time.
