Power resistors offer the user the ability to use true vacuum pick place heads for automatic placement.

Tyco Electronics has released a new series of surface mount power resistors in 1, 2, 3 and 5W packages with true pick and place suitability.

Available in very wide value ranges from 10R to 2M for the 1W version and R10 to 2M for the 2, 3 and 5W components in the E24 value grid, new SM series power resistors are available in tolerances of 1 or 5%.

The 1W version is only available in metal film format, whereas 2, 3 and 5W versions are available in metal film as well as wirewound format.

Maximum operating voltage is 300V for 1 and 2W devices and 500V for 3 and 5Wresistors.

All SM series power resistors are offered on tape.

Suited to meet today's circuit design needs in applications such as consumer electronics, computers, telecommunications and control instruments, new CGS brand SM series power resistors offer the user the ability to use true vacuum pick place heads for automatic placement.

There is no need for either the forming of leads or pincer tools for pick and place.

SM series power resistors benefit from a low profile case design with flexible tinned copper terminations for reliable solder joints.

All versions use a fully welded construction technique, unlike other designs that rely solely on tinned termination connections.

These features allow SM series devices to withstand higher temperatures associated with reflow, vapour phase, or infrared (IR) manufacturing processes without degradation.

The components are designed for a very wide operating temperature range from -55 to +200C, making them the ideal solution when replacing leaded components.
