Much faster to assemble than traditional MIL clamp devices, Greenpar RF coaxial connectors using the pressure sleeve (or "Top Hat") solder clamp system from Tyco Electronics are available in a broad variety of formats, including BNC, TNC and N-Type. The Greenpar pressure sleeve clamp has many advantages over other types of clamps. For example, assembly time is minimised and the clamp is available for use with a wide range of cables.
Further, the clamp maintains exceptional cable retention approaching the breaking strain of the cable, offers improved VSWR and ensures a weatherproof connector entry.
The main advantage of the "Top Hat" assembly system is that the connectors are field repairable and replaceable without the need for special tools.
After preparation of the cable, the braid is captivated by means of a pressure sleeve.
The centre contact is then soldered to the centre conductor, and the assembly is then held together by means of a clamp nut, which is tightened into place using a spanner.
The braid captivation method comprises three main components (clamp nut, ferrule or "Top Hat" and gasket).
