Board-mount smart card connectors with IDC termination from Tyco Electronics enable designers to remotely locate the smart card slot from the main board, while ensuring easy maintenance

Aimed at applications such as set top boxes and digital encryption, board-mount smart card connectors with IDC termination from Tyco Electronics enable designers to remotely locate the smart card slot from the main board, while still ensuring easy and cost-effective maintenance. The smart card connector features a ribbon cable with strain relief, various cable lengths and versions offering 8 and 16 contacts.

Operating over -10 to +70C, the connector is current rated for class-A 100mA signals and class-B 50mA, withstanding transients of 1A.

Voltage rating is ISO/IEC 7816-3 class-A 5.5V and class-B 3.3V maximum.

Withdrawal force is 2N minimum and insertion force is 10N maximum.

Excluding cable and IDC connector, termination resistance is 100mohm, maximum for data contacts and 150mohm for the switch contacts.

Dielectric withstanding voltage for both data and switch contacts is 200V DC or 250V RMS at 50Hz.

In a high temperature thermoplastic housing, the smart card connector has phosphor bronze contacts, plated gold over nickel on the mating areas and tin-lead over nickel on soldering areas.

The connectors are rated at 30,000 cycles durability and designed to withstand 20min random vibration over 10 to 500Hz in each of three perpendicular planes.
