Successive-approximation ADC has LVDS interface
Texas Instruments has announced the industry's first 16bit, 2Msample/s SAR analogue-to-digital convertor (ADC) family to offer a serial LVDS interface
The ADS8413 and ADS8410 use serial LVDS outputs to provide data transfer of up to 200Mbit/s with reduced digital noise. The devices are well-suited for high-speed, high-precision applications such as medical instrumentation, communications, data acquisition and closed-loop systems. The ADS8413 has a pseudo-bipolar, differential input and features excellent AC performance without compromising DC precision: -107dB total harmonic distortion (THD), 92dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and +/-1LSB integral nonlinearity (INL).

The ADS8410 has a unipolar, single-ended input and features -98dB THD, 87.5dB SNR and +/-1LSB INL.
The LVDS interface is designed to support daisy chaining or cascading of multiple devices on the same bus.
Both devices feature low power dissipation of 290mW at 2Msample/s and offer two additional power-saving modes.
When used at lower throughput rates, the nap mode enables substantial power-saving options.
When not in use, a hardware power-down mode helps conserve energy (5uW).
TI provides customers with an advanced signal chain solution for high-speed, high-precision applications including wideband amplifiers, such as the THS4031, to drive the analogue inputs of the ADC and deserialisers, such as the SN65LVDS152, to convert serial LVDS into parallel data.
The ADS8413 and ADS8410 are available now in 48-pin QFN packages from TI and its authorised distributors.
The ADS8413 is priced at $24.05 in 1000-piece quantities; the ADS8410 is priced at $23.00 in 1000-piece quantities (suggested resale pricing).
