TUV takes on approved smart cards

TUV Product Service has gained approval from Europay to run all EMV Co Level 2 test cases at its UK Laboratory in Fareham, Hampshire - formal accreditation is due shortly.

TUV Product Service has gained approval from Europay to run all EMV Co Level 2 test cases at its UK Laboratory in Fareham, Hampshire - formal accreditation is due shortly. The new service will enable manufacturers of smart card devices to have their products tested in the UK against the harmonised debit/credit EMV standards supported by Europay, Mastercard and VISA. Compliance with these EMV Level 2 standards is essential to ensure that card interface devices and related software have the functionality and interoperability to perform effectively with EMV-compliant payment systems.

TUV Product Service has been involved with the technologies associated with smart cards since their inception.

It is the sole supplier of Mondex type approval of electronic devices worldwide.

Accredited laboratories in the UK and Japan prepare reports and manage the type approval process in collaboration with Mondex International for fast evaluation and clearance.

The company has tested a wide variety of smart card products including vending units, automatic teller machines and retail devices.
