Toshiba's 1.8in hard drives are now available in a new, smaller form factor.

Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division has responded to consumer demand for the outstanding performance and reliability of its industry leading HDD technology in increasingly shrinking mobile devices by offering its current range of 1.8in hard drives in a new, smaller form factor.

The new form factor delivers current 1.8in drive capacities in a casing smaller than current drives.

This includes new form factors for the 60Gbyte MK6008GAL, 40Gbyte MK4008GAH, 30Gbyte MK3008GAL and the 20Gbyte MK2008GAH.

The new MK3008GAL and MK2008GAL will be just 5mm in height and the MK6008GAH and MK4008GAH 8mm.

In addition, the MK3008GAL and MK2008GAL will weigh just 48g and the MK4006GAH and MK6006GAH just 59g.

High capacity, small form factor drives have increasingly become the storage technology of choice for the world's leading digital media players and in a diverse range of mobile applications including in-car stereos, GPS systems and smart phones.

"Our new HDD has been designed to fulfil specific customer requirements for high performance HDD technology in a smaller form factor to our current drives", explained Nick Spittle, Product Development Manager, Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division.

"The new form factor compliments our current line up of 1.8in drives whilst helping our customers deliver innovation, in terms of size and performance, for next generation feature reach devices".

The company recently announced that it has surpassed the milestone of cumulative production of 14 million 1.8in hard disk drives (HDDs), clearly demonstrating the role of Toshiba's small form factor, high-capacity storage solution as the driving force behind many of today's most popular consumer electronics devices.
