A new family of miniature, high current, surface mount LEDs offer high levels of luminous intensity across a wide temperature range

Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched a family of miniature, high current, surface mount LEDs that offer high levels of luminous intensity across a wide temperature range. Devices in the new TLxH1106 high brightness LED family have the same compact dimensions of Toshiba's conventional LED family, yet deliver up to 2.5 times the luminous intensity.

The TLxH1106 family of InGaAlP LEDs is ideal for indication and backlighting in automotive systems, message boards, gaming equipment, vending machines and other applications that require high levels of brightness at a variety of operating temperatures.

Devices are available in red, orange, yellow and green, have maximum forward current ratings of 70mA, and can operate at temperatures from -40 to +100C.

Currents of 50mA are possible to temperatures as high as +85C.

When operating with a typical forward current of 50mA at +25C, typical forward voltages are rated at 2.1V.

Under these conditions the green, yellow and orange LEDs have respective luminous intensities of 250, 500 and 620mcd.

Toshiba offers three versions of the red LEDs with luminous intensities of 250, 300 and 600mcd.

Package dimensions for the new LEDs in the PLCC-3 package are just 3.2 x 2.8 x 1.9mm.

The package is footprint compatible with PLCC-4 packages.

All of the devices are compatible with lead-free manufacturing processes.
