A new 6.5in active-matrix TFT LCD module is suitable for applications where a high quality colour display is required but space is limited

The latest 6.5in active-matrix TFT LCD module from Toshiba combines high quality display performance with compact module size, and is suitable for industrial control, warehousing systems, electronic point-of-sale (POS) terminals, ticket and information kiosks, medical systems, test and measurement equipment and other applications where a high quality colour display is required but space is limited.

Developed by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Company (TMD), the new LTA065A041F display offers a 640 x 480 (VGA) pixel resolution and a viewing area of 131.52 x 98.64mm.

Module dimensions are a mere 151.0 x 115.5 x 10.0mm.

The display uses an RGB colour filter array to provide up to 64 grey shades per colour for a total of 256K colours, and has a built-in cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight.

Commenting on the launch of the new 6.5in display, Marc Parsons, European Business Development Manager for LCDs at Toshiba Electronics Europe, states: "The addition of this 6.5in VGA display broadens our TFT LCD portfolio with a space-efficient solution for a wide variety of industrial, test and measurement, retail, and medical applications.

Furthermore, in accordance with our industrial LCD strategy, we plan to supply this display for the next three years, subject to sufficient demand and the availability of components".

The LTA065A041F offers typical brightness levels of 400cd/m2 and a typical contrast ratio of 250:1.

Typical viewing angle for the unit is specified as 90 degrees in the vertical direction (at 10:1 contrast ratio) and 120 degrees in the horizontal direction, ensuring clear image quality in circumstances where the viewer is unable to directly face the screen.

Based on a space-efficient chip on glass (COG) technology, the LTA065A041F features a built-in LCD drive circuit that minimises the need for external components.

Typical response times as fast as 25ms ensure optimum image quality for the display of moving images.
