Car audio amp uses
I2C control and diagnostics
A new high-performance audio amplifier simplifies the design and testing of car audio applications by allowing control and diagnostic functions to be performed using the I2C bus
The Toshiba TB2902H is a class AB power amplifier with an integrated self-diagnosis function that can be controlled via an I2C bus. Diagnostic capabilities cover turn-on and permanent faults in power amplifier and line driver modes. These diagnostics can be used during vehicle assembly and for maintenance during vehicle lifetime.

Available diagnostic tests include output short detection and offset detection, as well as open circuit detection on vehicle loudspeakers.
An automatic tweeter test with selectable 300 or 500mA current thresholds is also provided.
The integration of an I2C capability within the TB2902H also allows the amplifier audio controls such as standby, mute and voltage gain to be operated via the bus.
Based on Toshiba's BiCDMOS (BiCD) process, the TB2902H delivers high amplifier output power and low distortion.
Maximum output power is rated at 41W per channel (for a 4ohm load and a VCC of 14.4V) and distortion is just 0.2% at 10kHz.
Amplifier quiescent current is typically 200mA.
Additional benefits of the BiCD process include a very low typical standby current of just 1uA, and high surge voltage resistance up to 50V.
Toshiba's new amplifier offers a number of built-in protection features including thermal shut down and overvoltage protection.
Individual protection for each channel against output-to-GND, output-to-VCC and output-to-output shorts is also provided.
The TB2902H is designed to operate with voltages of between 9 and 18V and is available in a HZIP25 package.
