TT Electronics Prestwick Circuits has demonstrated its continued commitment to environmentally friendly manufacturing processes with the appointment of Environmental Engineer, Hodi Mirafsari. Mirafsari has been appointed to oversee and manage Prestwick's environmental initiatives to optimise process and product efficiency, effective waste management and recycling. Formerly Environmental Process Engineer at Circatex, Mirafsari has significant experience of environmental issues pertaining to the manufacture of printed circuit boards.
He will play a fundamental role at Prestwick providing advice and recommendations to the management team for the implementation of actions to continually improve Prestwick's environmental policies.
Prestwick believes that implementation of new initiatives to ensure compliance with current and future environmental legislation, in support of government regulations such as the EU Directive, WEEE Directive and RoHS, is essential to its future business success.
Registration to ISO14001 is also under way which will provide a framework that inspires and channels the creativity of all members within the organisation.
Over the last 18 months, Prestwick has undertaken in-house utility studies regarding its water and electricity consumption which identified inefficient areas where improvements could be made.
As a result, numerous changes and modifications have now been made, including the installation of water meters to all water-using processes, repair of significant water leaks, and the introduction of automatic cutoff switches for both water and electricity usage.
These modifications have assisted Prestwick in reducing its consumption of water by 31% and electricity by over 15%.
Prestwick has also recently received notification of its recognition as a Sony "Green Partner" having successfully completed Sony's Green Partner environmental quality approval programme.
Achieving approval from Sony is a prestigious accolade awarded only to suppliers who proactively seek to reduce their negative environmental impact.
Hodi Mirafsari says: "Prestwick has invested a significant amount of time and resources to minimise its contribution to negative and harmful impacts on the environment and maximise its savings through waste management and recycling.
Prestwick's environmental management programme demonstrates its devotion to the global conservation of the environment, through successful elimination of pollution risks".
Derek Mansfield, Managing Director, TT Electronics Prestwick Circuits, says: "With a great deal of focus and effort over the last 18 months, Prestwick has decreased its water consumption by a staggering 31% and more recently, electricity usage by over 15%.
This is beneficial from an environmental perspective and also makes great business sense for us as substantial savings have been made to the company's expenditure".
"With the appointment of Hodi Mirafsari, we now have the expertise required to implement a continuous environmental improvement programme, which will benefit the local community, our employees and customers, and the business as a whole".
