Tilcon Software has extended it support for OpenGL environments to include QNX Software Systems' implementation of the OpenGL ES graphics API

OpenGL ES is a cross-platform API for building full-function 2D and 3D graphics on embedded systems, including in-car infotainment systems and handheld devices. A well-defined subset of desktop OpenGL, OpenGL ES makes it easy and affordable to integrate advanced 3D graphics and games across an array of embedded platforms.

As a member of Freescale's mobileGT alliance, Tilcon demonstrated this integration at the Freescale Technology Forum in Orlando, Florida.

Tilcon showed 3D objects in conjunction with its unified automotive dashboard interface on Freescale's Total5200, leveraging Silicon Turnkey Express' CoralP based plug-in card.

'Today, OEMs in the automotive and defence markets are demanding advanced 3D and 2D capabilities'.

'Tilcon is happy to be extending its support for OpenGL on multiple operating systems to include QNX Software System's new OpenGL ES implementation', said Prosanto Sarkar, VP of Marketing.

'Our customers have been requesting 2D and 3D integration for some time now'.

'Extending our support for multiple OpenGL ES environments is a key initiative for Tilcon Software'.

'QNX is pioneering the adoption of advanced graphics in the automobile, so we welcome Tilcon's initiative to support our optimised implementation of OpenGL ES, the new industry standard for highly portable and efficient 3D and 2D graphics', said Linda Campbell, Director of Strategic Alliances at QNX.

'Together, Tilcon and QNX have a long history of enabling graphics-rich embedded applications, in everything from medical equipment to subway safety systems, and this support is the latest product of our longstanding collaboration'.

QNX's implementation of OpenGL ES is scheduled for commercial release in Q3 2005.
